New London Man Receives Heat Pump System In Time Of Need to cry. Okuly said he does not really know how to thank Chappell Central for its act of kindness towards his family. By Ralph Dickerson Lake Area Review In July of this year, Michele Okuly passed away unexpectedly, leaving husband Brian with extensive medical bills and also her funeral expenses. On top of that, the heating system at the couple's home outside of New London, near Beard's Resort, does not work correctly. "We have an old rambler house," Okuly said. "I think it was built in the 50s; it's got baseboard heat. I have been having problems with it the last three years." Okuly said getting it to come in tests a person's patience, Okuly said he needed to turn it on, turn it off and turn it back on until it made a clicking noise to get it to work. In addition, due to the age of the heating units, his heating bills in the winter often ranged around $400 per month. Since his wife Michele volunteered extensively in the New London area, she helped restart the Ambassador program and worked on the Water Days festivities, Chappell Central chose the Okuly family for its CCI Cares Program. "For this year's (thanks) Giving 2022 Chappell Central is privileged to have partnered with Minnesota Air, Carrier and Baker Electric for the installation of a dual-head ductless heat pump system for the Okuly family, Chappell Central spokesperson April Dorry said. "The installation is set to take place on Nov. 18 with the gift of time and talent from volunteer Chappell Central and Baker Electric employees." Okuly said he found out about the donation at the benefit held for his family Oct. 15 at the New London American Legion. He arrived early at the event, and saw a group of ladies and others in the legion, and noticed some of the women crying. He also saw a couple there he did not recognize. Okuly approached the group and inquired about their crying. It turns out that one of the persons he did not recognize is a sister to one of Chappell Central's owners, and she came bearing good news for Okuly. "Brian, I just wanted to let you know you are really appreciated and you are loved; your whole family is loved, your wife was loved," Okuly said she told him. "We at Chappell Central are going to donate the whole heating and cooling system and the installation to you at no charge." Okuly said when the woman told him this information, he immediately broke down and started "I know how wonderful Chappell Central is," Okuly said. "I know how much they do for the community; I know they do things like this for other families too. I am just so appreciative of what they are doing. I don't know how to say thank you to them." 8001 Left to right is (all CCI Employees unless otherwise noted): Dylan Olson, Brad Steffen, Steve Lindstrand, Randy Baker (Baker Electric), Brian Okuly (Homeowner/Recipient) and Ben Lynde Dorry said for many years Chappell Central Inc. participated in the Lennox 'Feel the Love' campaign, which donated heating and cooling equipment to families in need. Dorry said Chappell Central gifted over 20 pieces of equipment to the needy. She said this year marks the second year Chappell Central partnered with Minnesota Air and Carrier. Though Chappell participated in these giving programs, the company also wanted its own giving program. "Initially, the sole purpose of the CCI Cares Program was to gift back to the communities we serve without limitation," Dorry said. "It has expanded in the past year to include all of the gifting that is of importance to us, which reaches far beyond our customer base and the communities we do business in." Dorry said though several agencies exist to help people in need, some people with needs simply do not qualify for help. The CCI program helps these people receive the help they need, like the Okuly family. The process for Chappell Central to help Okuly started when Okuly contacted a friend of his, Tom Jensen, an employee at Chappell Central. Okuly inquired about the cost of a heat pump system and Jensen put Okuly in touch with a company salesperson. The salesperson came out and gave Okuly an estimate, and he told the salesperson he planned to wait until after the benefit dinner to make a decision regarding installing the system. The rest is history. Though Chappell Central is located in Willmar, its employees come from all over Kandiyohi County. Since a large part of its employee base comes from surrounding communities, Chappell Central takes an interest in its employee's communities, and provides sponsorships to many events in the county. For example, in the New London area Chappell Central supports the New London to New Brighton Antique Car run and the New London Water Day festivities to name a few sponsorships. The company also supports the Prairie Pothole Conservation organization, Ducks Unlimited, multiple school proms, Thanksgiving meals for kids and many other activities in the area. "Our commitment to giving back through CCI Cares is reaching far beyond our customers to those 'friends' we have not met yet, and may never meet," Dorry said. "But it's a mission that is important to us. It is how Chappell Central is making a difference for the locals and beyond." The owners of Chappell Central are Matt Kelly, Ross Pederson, Joe Meyer and Paul Krueger. Dorry said the foundation of the CCI Cares program comes from the investment customers make in the business through supporting the company, as well as the owners who have placed such a high importance on generosity and giving back. "This holiday season, we hope everyone will join us in making the life of someone in need a bit less burdened and more blessed," Dorry said.
