"I became a member of Church of St. Mary/Jesus Our Living Water Area Faith Community prior to my wedding. Soon after our marriage, my husband received the Right of Christian Initiation For Adults (RCIA) and joined the Catholic faith. At that time, we decided together that becoming involved with our church community was important to us personally and allowed us the ability to become more immersed in our faith and develop ongoing friendships with fellow parishioners. For John and Veronica Groothuis being active members in this area faith community has been an important part of their lives Being married for over 25 years and with their daughter, Malena, the church and the Catholic faith have provided a guide for them Veronica is very dedicated to prayer and prays the Rosary. John is involved with the Knights of Columbus. They both encourage each other to strengthen their faith and improve on each other's shortcomings. The Spanish Mass on Sunday is a place where they both can reflect and rejoice in the word of God. The Holy Spirit is present when they hear and join in singing the beautiful Spanish hymns sung by the choir We continued our involvement together in the Area Faith Community until his death. My church community supported me through difficult months ahead, and I was extremely grateful for memories we created together and the relationships developed. At a time when could've turned away, I sought support and comfort in my Christian faith, and had my church community behind me to provide and encourage the strength required to live forward.
